New Mural at the Sugar and Spice Bakery, Amsterdam I've just finished a new mural at the Sugar and Spice Bakery in Amsterdam. The mural was designed to match the colours of the bakery's logo and decor and was created to give the customers something colourful and eye-catching as they entered the shop. The bakery owner (Nir) also wanted something colourful to catch the eye of passers-by and draw them into the shop to taste his cakes :-D As well as painting the main wall in the entrance Nir also wanted the doorframe to be painted to create a colourful archway for people to pass under as they enter the shop: The mural was created in a doorway entrance and when I created the mural I factored-in the view of the piece as you look through the door glass: The installation took about 30 hours to complete and I was painting during a heat-wave in Amsterdam too so it got a bit hot at times... :-O The mural is the second piece I've created on my recently launched Amsterdam Art Trail - which is a new project that aims create a trail of colourful murals around the Amsterdam city centre... New Mural at the Gouden Leeuw, Amsterdam I've just finished a new mural at the Gouden Leeuw in Amsterdam (and it's my first mural since moving to The Netherlands...) It's a doorway mural in a bedroom that wraps the edge of the door and extends over to an adjacent door panel. The owner of the room is from South Africa and wanted some bold colours in the mural to remind him of home... Hope you enjoy this post - I've also included some photos of the work-in-progress at the bottom of the page (you can also see the work-in-progress photos on my Facebook and Pinterest pages...) The painting is extended to wrap around the edge so that some of the colours can be seen from outside the room. I tried to get it so the colours and the patterns "jump" over from one side of the door to the other, whilst at the same time linking the 2 panels of the door together. The edges of the door have been painted to make it look as though the shapes are 3-dimensional blocks that are built into the door - a bit like a moving 3-d jigsaw. I painted about 1/3 of the outside of the door to create a nice teaser effect as you're walking into the room... Some more detailing on the edge of the door... Before, During and After - The Mural in Progress... Just about to start work on the mural... Black border to mark out the edge of the painting A golden yellow border to create a bold and colourful effect Border on the other side of the door View from outside the room View from inside with the door ajar View from sitting on the bed Some initial colours Some initial colours View from outside Colour scheme taking shape... Mostly colour but still some white... View with the door open The finished product!
